A good to-do list separates priorities, regular tasks, waiting-on items, and completed work. This makes the list easier to scan and keeps blocked tasks from cluttering the day.
For daily planning, keep the must-do list short. Three priority tasks plus a flexible task list is usually more realistic than trying to finish everything at once.
Group tasks by priority and move stale or blocked items out of the main list. Review the list regularly and delete tasks that no longer matter. A useful list should reduce stress, not store guilt.
